Would you like to organize a kitesurfing trip to the mythical spot of Tarifa?Do you want to learn or simply practice kiteboarding? But don’t know exactly when to come (best period, temperatures, etc.)? On which beach you can practice?
This article answers the following questions and allows you to prepare and organize your kitesurfing trip in Tarifa as well as possible.
When to come to Tarifa? Is there a best time for the wind?
The Tarifa spot is one of the most famous spots in Europe and in the world. Thanks to its geographical location (Strait of Gibraltar), we are lucky that the wind blows there nearly 320 days a year.There is not strictly speaking a season for the wind, like other spots like Brazil or other…
You can practice kitesurfing all year round!!
Of course, the organization of your kitesurfing trip depends more on what you are looking for for your vacation.
-> You like more the sun, tan, good vibes (party..) during the day and in the night. If so, we recommend that you come between mid-June and mid-September.
-> If, on the contrary, you are looking for a calm and quiet stay, we recommend the following months: March-April-May, October and November. During these months, there is still animation and life in Tarifa. However, the tourist influx is lower than in summer.

The winter months (December January February) are months when you can also to kitesurfing. However, it is often more rain and cold season. The outdoor’s and water’s temperatures are cooler, so you spend less time in the water.
This is also one of the reasons why the kitesurfing school Addict closes its doors during this period. Indeed, the wind conditions are much less favorable for kite lessons and courses..
What temperature can I expect for my kite trip?
The village of Tarifa is a great place to live! Being located at the southern tip of Spain, this allows us not to be too cold in winter or too hot in summer.
Here is a summary table of the average temperatures recorded throughout the year. We have also specified the recommended wetsuit size for each month. In order to facilitate the preparation of your kite trip.

On which beach should I practice?
Tarifa has different beaches, all as natural and wild as each other, where you can practice kitesurfing at different times of the year.
On each of them, you can find bars / restaurants (called Chiringuito) to eat, refresh or simply enjoy and rest. Parking spaces are also available, paid or free depending on the beach.

-> Los Lances:
Almost 5 km long, it is the largest in Tarifa.
It is essentially composed of fine sand and can be divided into 2 parts: North part, more natural area and protected area and South part, more urban part. The village of Tarifa is in the southern part of the beach.
The kite school area, where we give kitesurfing lessons and courses every day, is located in the northern part, between the Bar de Plage Agua and the Rio Jara camping.
A Freeride zone is accessible between the Agua beach bar and the Dos Mares hotel.
Depending on the time of year, you may not be able to kitel where you want.
Indeed, from June 15 to September 15, the entire southern part of the beach, located between the village of Tarifa and the campsite is reserved for swimmers. All the rest of the year you can kite the entire length of the beach.
Even when the wind is Levante, Offshore, you can kitesurf all year round thanks to the presence of rescue boats.
-> Valdevaqueros:
Is a kitesurfing spot, just as emblematic and mythical as the beach of Los Lances. This spot is located about 7 km from Tarifa. It is much smaller and more practiced by independent and advanced riders. It is possible to kite there all year round and in any wind, whether Poniente or Levante.
Given its smaller size, it is not favorable for beginners and kite lessons.
-> Punta Paloma:
Located at the foot of the Dune and in the extension of Valdevaqueros beach, this beach is very similar to Bolonia beach (located 15 km from Tarifa).
It is also practicable all year round but you can find some rock down the sand dune.

->Balneario:
It is not a beach strictly speaking, but a simple part of the beach of Los Lances, located at the foot of the breakwater (southern part).
This spot is known by professional or non-professional riders from all over the world, who when the wind blows very strong Levante, the spot allows them to make big jumps.
This spot is mainly accessible for experienced kitebaorders.
For beginners and less experienced levels, it is an ideal spot to see and contemplate spectacular jumps and tricks.
